The Royal Way To Wear Modern Pearls

It’s a happy coincidence that the pearl is the birthstone for the Queen’s official birthday in June, and is also her most loved and worn gemstone, as they have been loved by many monarchs before her. But we shouldn’t assume that pearls are the preserve of the more senior members of the royal family. Here we show how the most stylish Royals also prefer pearls.

When it comes to pearls, the Duchess of Cambridge is most definitely a fan; in fact, before she was married she was spotted several times in Claudia’s designs! These days her wardrobe is carefully curated according to the occasion, however pearls still feature frequently and sometimes in wonderfully modern designs. At this year’s Easter Sunday Service, Kate decorated a plain coat with a striking five-pearl brooch and matching oversized pearl earrings. In 2017, possibly the same earrings featured alongside an asymmetric pearl necklace during a visit to Poland. Kate often wears white pearl drop earrings and has a few favourite pairs for lower-key occasions. The Duchess also has the privilege of wearing jewellery from the Royal collections and has chosen the Lover’s Knot Tiara, which features 19 oriental pearls, several times for state occasions. This tiara was also a favourite of Diana, Princess of Wales.

Another of our favourite Royals, for her elegant but relaxed sense of style, is the wife of Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Hers was one of our favourite looks from Harry and Meghan’s Royal wedding guests, finished with these gorgeous pearl and diamond drop earrings (centre), which she wore again for the Queen’s birthday Trooping The Colour. Often seen in covetable pearl earrings, this pearl cluster design (bottom left) caught our eye, along with the silver drop earrings (bottom right) very similar to our own Margarita Pearl Earrings. For the Chelsea Flower show this year she went for simple white pearl studs (try the Audrey here) with a beautiful white summer dress.

Having worked in the art and fashion industries, Lady Helen Taylor, daughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, showed how to style a pearl choker with this bold Royal Ascot outfit (centre). We’ve also spotted both Lady Helen (top left) and Autumn Phillips, wife of Princess Anne’s son, Peter (bottom left) wearing white pearl jacket earrings very similar to our White Pearl Duos.

At a previous Trooping The Colour, Autumn’s white hat and earrings stood out against a royal blue dress. Zara Tindall, shows that, regardless of Royal connections a flattering pearl stud is still an everyday essential for every wardrobe!
